Grace, 19, struggled with anxiety and depression for over a year, which stopped her from making an attempt to break into the working world. When Grace was referred to Spear Brighton by the Hove Job Centre, she had no confidence in herself or her future and had no idea how to apply for a job. On the Spear programme, Grace was taken out of her comfort zone and instead of crumbling, she felt the fear and did it anyway
Over the course of the 6-week programme, Grace grew in confidence, was able to name and explain her strengths with clarity, wrote her first CV, applied for her first job and had her first interview. She is now working full time in her first job working in Bankers Fish and Chips. Grace’s goal for Spear was to grow in confidence, make great decisions despite what her anxiety and depression told her, and to get one foot onto the career ladder, and she achieved all that and more. Grace is now considering next steps of reengaging with education as her confidence continues to grow.
